The Toy Poodle puppy is a friendly, playful, and intelligent one.  About 20 minutes of excercise a day ( whether it be going for a walk or playing fetch with it's favorite toy) is usually enough to keep it happy.  Poodles, in general, are great with children and adults alike. Their devotion to family make them great companions and watchdogs without the senseless barking you might find in other breeds.  Toy Poodles are exceptionally clean dogs in addition to their nearly shedless coats.  They are relatively neat eaters and do not drool.  They are not heavy chewers and are usually very happy to play for a little, then curl up in their owners lap or lay next to family and nap.

Although many people think Toy, Minature, and Standard Poodles are of different breeds, they are not.  They are all the same breed, only different sizes.  The poodle is a descendant of the continental water dog known in Europe, particularly in Germany and Russia, dating back to the 1500's.  Other dogs such as the "Caniche" or "chien canard" ( duck dog) from France played a part in the development of the poodle.  Germany is given credit for naming the breed, "Pfudel"  (puddle or splash).  They graded the sizes into small, medium and large.

French aristocracy made the breed so popular, it was named the national dog of France, thus, "The French Poodle" became known all over the world.

The smallest poodle was recognized by AKC in 1943.  Please understand there is no variety known as the Teacup Poodle, it is simply a small specimen of the Toy Poodle.

Poodle puppies come in many different colors, such as apricots, blacks, blues, browns, cafe-au-laits, creams, grays, reds, silvers, & whites.  Poodle puppies with more than one color are known as Parti Poodles.  Although parti colored poodles are not considered an acceptable color for show purposes, a movement has to begun to promote the parti colored poodle as a distinct Poodle type.
